It still seems slightly weird that the original drivers seemed to work for so many features of VAGCOM, with the 3 missing measuring block columns being the only noticeable exception, but there you go. Still, after about 5 minutes of searching it finally found some drivers and installed them, and despite some initial skepticism VAG COM connected to my car fine and now shows all 4 columns of the measuring blocks! A slight curiosity was that it would now not install by being pointed at the VAG COM directory, but insisted on being allowed to look on the web. This time I checked the box to delete the driver files, and then did a fresh install without the 3rd party CD. So, when I tried to reinstall it it just went and used the same drivers it had used previously. At the present time, all scaling conversions are to metric units. You cant hurt anything with the Measuring Blocks function VAG-COM will attempt to 'scale' the raw data coming from the Control Module into real-world units like degrees C, km/h, etc. I again tried to uninstall the drivers for my 3rd party interface and noticed this time that when you uninstall the drivers there is an option to also delete the driver files, which I had originally missed. VAG-Scope can be used to play back Log files produced by any version of VCDS but only if they have not been saved or modified by any other program. Feel free to explore the Control Modules in your car by scrolling through all the Groups. Ok, thanks to for solving this problem - especially as it was caused by a 3rd party and not a fault with VAG COM:
